Access Statement for The Barn at Rickyard Cottage
Introduction
This statement describes the access, procedures and facilities at Rickyard Cottage, as they might apply to, and for the benefit of, someone with disabilities. We would like your stay with us to be as comfortable as possible, so please do not hesitate to ask if you have concerns about access or there is anything that might make your stay more enjoyable.
We welcome your suggestions for any addition to this statement, or improvements, within the property limitations, to disabled access.
Rickyard Cottage is situated in the hamlet of Denner Hill, on a no-through road in the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Barn, situated beside, but separate to our 19c cottage, was rebuilt in 2007, purposely to provide one ground floor bed and breakfast unit with all facilities, including service of breakfast. We want everyone to be able to enjoy red kites and a stunning view, from the comfort of their accommodation.
Pre-Arrival
• Phone, fax and email are available, and texting to mobile if alerted previously.
• Information and menus in large print can be sent to you. The website has accessible features.
• Our Access statement will be available online, and can be mailed to you.
• There is no close public transport. The train and bus come to Great Missenden station (access to London rail and tube) 8 minutes away and there are taxis available or we can collect you. There are no pubs for evening meals in easy walking distance.
• Shopmobility is available in Eden Centre, High Wycombe all week, please look at their website for more details.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• The path from the car park to your room front door is 9m long. There is a kerb and two steps with a handrail and one further step, all not exceeding 15 cm tall. The door threshold is 10cm. Door widths are standard and there is a folding garden door that opens further with some force needed.
• On arrival, guests are met from the car. Luggage can be transported to the barn. We then explain the 'workings' of the accommodation in detail, but information is also contained in a folder in the room.
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas
• Your accommodation is a ground floor barn with outside door (10cm threshold) and triple folding french windows giving straight onto your own terrace and courtyard garden with a view over a farm lane to the Chiltern Hills. This view can be seen from the bed.
• The room combines the functions of bedroom, sitting and breakfast room in one space - with en suite shower room. Ceramic tile flooring is laid throughout, with underfloor heating.
• A wall-hung adjustable television with subtitles and radio channels can be seen from all parts of the room. A fluorescent digital alarm clock with radio is on the bedside table
• Drinks and kettle are provided
• The bed is superking and higher than average at 63cm.
• A smoke alarm has been fitted which has an audible alarm and there is automatic emergency lighting.
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]
• The shower-room is en suite, at the same level as the bedroom. The shower is 120cm wide (width of room) by 115cm. The tray is 8cm lower than the room. There is a seat the width of the shower on the back wall. Two different showerheads enable overhead or handheld showering. The toilet seat is 23cm wide by 66cm high. The room is deliberately free of built-in furniture and we have tried to include enough space to turn a wheelchair from door to toilet. However please consult us.
• We will be adding grab rails for shower and toilet, and will have available a removable seat for the toilet.
Grounds and Gardens
• The Barn has a triple-door sliding French window with a sill of 14cm giving on to a stone paving terrace. Chairs and table are placed here for visitors to enjoy their own gravelled courtyard garden which gives on to a no-through country lane, and affords views across the Chiltern Hills.
Additional Information
• Fire Emergency procedure is shown in a folder in the room
• Denner Hill, in the heart of the country has no traffic or background noise.
• Refrigeration can be provided in our kitchen for food or medicine

Future Plans
• We plan to add a grab rail to the side of the shower (there is now a seat the width of the shower) and to the side of the toilet, in the ensuite shower room.
